By all means, you should start your business while remaining as a faculty. It will take a while for you to develop a successful business model. Being a faculty, you can continue to experiment without worrying too much about failure. Worse comes to worse, you still have the faculty position that many in society can only dream to have.

When thinking about business, don't think small and simple ventures, because there are many others who can do these ventures better than you. You won't enjoy the competitive advantage. Being an economist, you have tons of advantages that 99% of the population do not have. So think about your strength, and build a business based on your strength most people don't have. You have time to develop the ideas while continuing your regular job.

My advise is to follow your passion, and do something that excites you. In America, anything you want badly, you can get it. Nearly everything is possible. The only question is whether you want it or not.

Finally, as times goes on, you will realize how valuable the faculty position is. You can be a good faculty and a successful business mm at the same time. Most importantly, start your day with passion and continue to do the best in your capacity.
