In the DELL support area, there are tons of material and information on how to remove viruses and keep computers secure, and its forum is excellent. It has two special areas, one is about Hijackthis, the other is about virus removal. Go there to find them.
The first step you might do is to download and run Hijackthis. When running Hijackthis, do not forget to turn off system restore utility. Microsoft antiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy are also helpful.
Generally speaking, the following three are the minimum ones to protect computers:
1. Find and use an anti-virus software: McAfee, Symantec Norton, and Trend Micro PC-cillin are major ones.
2. Install a firewall.
3. Keep Windows updated if using Windows.
