加內存條的問題

主板上有三個內存條插槽，其中兩個各插一條256MB的內存，現在想再買一條256或者512MB的內存條插在空著的第三個槽上，不知道是否可行？這裏不考慮三個內存條的頻率是否一致。

請有經驗的朋友指點指教。謝謝！
