how should I edit the host file?

I opened my host file and see:
# [LinkShare][IE-SpyAd]
127.0.0.1 ad.linksynergy.com
127.0.0.1 click.linksynergy.com #[eTrust.Tracking Cookie]
127.0.0.1 m.banner.linksynergy.com
127.0.0.1 ssl.linksynergy.com
127.0.0.1 www.linkshare.com

so I guess it just prevents linksynergy.com from contacting the host server, but still does not solve my problem. Please give me more instruction, thanks so much!
