They do use different frequencies with different channels. Unfortunately, most of 2.4GHz cordless phones use a technology called frequency hopping technology, that uses the entire frequency range that 802.11b and 802.11g also use.The phone will automatically switch in the range to get a strongest signal. If you use 900MHz or a different frequency than 2.4GHz phone, you won't have the interference.
I can't guarantee it will work for sure, as the situation LZ mentioned could be caused by so many possibilities. But changing channel is one of the easist test to do. (actually, trying to move your router away from your phone station as far as possible is the first thing you should try). You can change among channel 1-11 in your router and your wireless card on your computer. Try 11 first. How to change the channel on your wireless card depends on what kind of program you are using to control your card. For simple XP, go to network connection and right click the wireless connection and choose properties, and then open the configuration of your card, and you should see a channel number somewhere. Make it the same as your router. good luck.
