1.In safe mode, use msconfig from "start-run", un-check those program you don't need in start up.

2.upgrade memory from 128mb to 256mb, will help you a lot.
the laptop memory you need to select 128mb/pc100 8 chips (144pin) if the laptop has two memory slot.
if only one memory slot there, select 16chips pc-100. will works.
