stability of either should not be a problem as long as you have the right mobo, ram, video card and other hardware. if you just care about speed, i would recommend AMD 64 Venice core for the high FSB, and general, at the same price range, AMD 64 is faster. Just go to this guide and build one with whatever money you have.

One thing though, if you are going to do a lot of video editing or such, Intel's architechture is generally better than AMD. However, AMD 64 X2 seems to be an exception.
One suggestion about build new system is to think about a 2 year period, meaning you don't want to save some money and make your system useless in just one or two years. Spend a little more if you could and you don't have to throw everything away tomorrow.
