Format cells as text
Select the cells you want to format.
On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.
In the Category list, click Text, and then click OK.
Enter the numbers in the formatted cells.
Format existing numbers as text
If you've already entered the numbers, you can change the numbers to text data.

Select the cells that contain the numbers you want to format as text.
On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.
In the Category list, click Text, and then click OK.
