laptop dvd burner does not rea

I have my data all backed up in DVDs. But I find that the dvd burner in my laptop does not read this dvds. I find that the burner is recognized as a removable one but it works well. I burned one DVD with it. Anybody have suggesions to me? I am now away from my desktop computer and need these data.
