How could you misplace the product key as it's on the back of your laptop unless you peeled it off?

Call the number you are given from activation screen and tell them you only have one installed copy right now but you've installed it (with same product key) on several PCs before (one at a time). Usually they'll let you off the hook.

XP has no overall performance advantage over Win2000. Your work PC has serious problems.
