There is one issue involving the MSVCRT.dll error message which can be caused when certain Microsoft programs are installed (Microsoft Works Suite 99, Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 99 (US only), Microsoft Encarta Virtual Globe 99, Microsoft Graphics Studio Greetings 99 and maybe some others).

In such cases the file is overwritten by another file of a different version which can cause the problem. The Microsoft article Q221946 has instructions on downloading and applying the fix
