PC cannot do sound recording

When I am chatting with others through MSN messenger, I can only hear from speaker,but what i am saying to microphone cannot be recognized by computer, so others won't hear my voice.
By the way, the mic is good. I don't know what problem it could be. I hope someone can help me, thanks a lot.
