Sure, it is a solution

Surely, you can connect the LCD monitor to your laptop if it got an monitor outlet. However, you may have to change some settings. I doubt you can get image on the LCD screen straightly without any changing. Based on my experience, i have to set the display properties before I using the external monitor due to there is an option of the primary monitor choosing.
anyway, it won't damage either your laptop and the monitor unless you hit them again. :=)
