Memory Question, help please.

Recently I bought a Dell DimensionTM?? 3000. The memory is 256MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz. I want to install one of my old memory, 256M DDR, PC2100. It doesn't work.

I found the dell memory is PC3300. Does that mean I need to install PC3300 DDR to upgrade the memory? What are difference between them.

Thanks.
