Use a hub!

If you don't have the full access/control of your landlord's router, you will never be able to set up your own router properly. Even if you do, you are still likely unable to setup, unless the routers are same model, otherwise it will waste you a lot of time. Go buy a hub, just connect it to the landlord's router and your 2 computers, no setup/configuration needed.
