Never tried BT. There are many controversies regarding this issue on the Internet. It may be true that BT won't hurt hard drive immediately but frequent reading and writing on hard drive certainly will shorten its life.

Don't know whether emule is the same thing.

I used CoolStreaming for online realtime TV viewing before. The signal light for hard drive is rarely flashing. The author of the software also claims CoolStreaming won't damage hard drive.
