When I said drive 1 and drive 2, I did not pay much attention to that they should be 0, and 1. I do not think that is an issue.
I think your second reason does make sense. Although my C drive was the system drive, I kind of suspect that the D drive was the boot drive, as it seems to be the primary partition of that drive. Now, if D is assigned to the new disk, that certainly will cause problem.
On the other hand, I tried to remove the new drive, boot from CD, boot from floppy disk, or set the new drive as the master. None of them worked. The only programs I was able to ran are installation utility that comes with the new disk, Ghost, and SETUP screen of Win XP. Each allowed me to boot into DOS and check various setting. From what I can tell, all the configurations seem to be correct. But I could go further beyond that.
Any other ideas?
