how to use (unlocked) T-Mobile

My T-mobile cell phone got unlocked. Anyone wants to enlighten me how I would use it in Shanghai?

Say, I am in Hong Qiao airport, can I still call using the approach I use in the States: Use a phone card - dial a US phone, enter PIN number and then dial the Shanghai local number I want to call.
