Different BIOS might have different menu appearances:
- Power up
- Press "Del" to stop boot
- Select "Standard BIOS", or the one below it
- Check the Boot Sequence, make sure "C:\" is booted before USB HD

Another test is put Window XP/whaterver CD in, to see if it boots with you USB harddisk in.
