Printer not printing

I just bought a Lexmark Printer, installation of the driver is sucessful, and on the control panel,
it does show that the Lexmark Printer is detected, however, i am not be able to get anything to print,
i can even preview any printout.
What could be the problem?

note: i tried to install HP printer previously and i can even get the driver installed, it keep giving me error prompt saying that "1311 source file is not found" ... but when i tried to install that driver on my friend's PC, it works fine.

Now i even have problem with the Lexmark printer, i am still wondering could it be my operating system problem? would any file that could have been missing in the O/S cause any print failure?

Please advise so that i can decide if i need to format my hard driver and reinstall the O/S.
