如何設置MYSQL?

I tried to install Apache, PHP, and MYSQL into my PC using windows XP. I found that Apache and PHP are working fine. However, I could not connect to MYSQL from PHP. I can logon to MYSQL using root as user and create tables. But I just cannot connect to my database through PHP. Any help is appreciated.
