No, IBM has been declining since the early 1990s. If you value reliability, Japanese brand like Toshiba/Sony will be first choice. My Toshiba has fallen from my shoulder for three times and one time was soaked in water (1/3 of the laptop), every time I was desperate, but it works as usual without any problem. It's three years old now. This is only my personal experience. BTW, my first laptop is IBM :(
I am talking about the reliability, no hard feelings about Japanese please...
