My combination:
1. BC-307 CF GPS receiver
2. PDA: Toshiba e740
3. Software: Mapopolis maps and place guide
4. Laptop (optional)+ Microsoft Mappoint 2004

Advanced one will be bluetooth communiction between GPS receiver and your PDA. probably you will have to spend more $$$ for this combination.
