Look at the back of a computer, you would find a serial port(Chuan xi) which is a 9-pin(zhen) connector, and a parallel port (Bing xi) containing 24 pins. Both are for data communication.Data can be transfered bit by bit with the serial port, and byte(8-bit) by byte with the parallel port. so you can conclude that parallel usually is faster the serial port. for more details, you could search the words "serial" and "parallel communication" in google.
