最近跟風玩VPN, 試驗了幾種配置。今天談談各種配置的網速比較。
（一） VPN Server(s)
(1) OpenVPN on Linksys WRT54G router (BCM CPU 216 MHz, 16M RAM) Tomato v1.28 USB/VPN
(2) OpenVPN on ASUS EEE PC Netbook Lubuntu 16.04 （Intel Celeron CPU 900 MHz , 2GB RAM)
(3) Softether OpenVPN on Dell PC Intel 2.66 MHz/4GB RAM (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.66 GHz ) Windows 10
(4) Softether L2TP/IPSec on Dell PC Dual Core CPU 2.66 MHz/4GB RAM Windows 10
Home FIOS speed: 50/50 Mbps
（二） VPN Client
Iphone 6 L2TP iOS client/Openvpn connent app for iOS
Speedtest.net app for iOS
Verizon wireless 4G/LTE connection
（三） 結果
Softether OpenVPN： 下載最快，上傳最快 （45-50/30 Mbps)
Softether L2TP/IPsec： 下載快，上傳較快 （~40/20 Mbps)
OpenVPN on Lubuntu Linux: 下載快，上傳一般 （~40/10 Mbps)
OpenVPN on WRT54G tomato: 下載上傳最慢（~4/3 Mbps)
各種 OpenVPN 的加密（AES-128-CBC）與壓縮（無）設置均相同。
（四）結論
（1）各種設置的硬件指標對網速影響可能較大。Linksys 的Router CPU 太不給力，速度最慢。
網上有人說：
“You are constrained by the CPU speed of your router. Asus RT-N16 is king of the hill in that department at this time [2010], but the best throughput of all will be achieved by hosting your VPN client and server on dedicated machines behind the router rather than on the router itself.”
（2）加密與壓縮設置（Y/N) 對網速也有影響。
