What you said is not true. Firstly, router is router, switch is switch, and hub is hub. They are not the same. Router 裏is not switch. Even though both router and switch's main purposes are directing the internet traffics; however, router is working with layer 3 traffics, commonly known as packet. On the other hand, switch is working at layer 2. On this level, the internet traffics are called segments. Both packet and segment have different data gram components. Thus, router and switch are essentially not the same in terms of functionality and features. In general, router is mainly used as default gateway to connect ip devices to outside world. Switch is served to direct inside traffics. Having said that, some of manufactures such as Cisco offer layer 3 switches, this can also be used as default gateway. Yet, it normally used as sub-gateway between a particular sub-network of the rest of LAN; or a bridge between two sub-networks of a LAN.
Secondly depending on manufactures such as Cisco through cable, telnet and ssh, router and switch can be connected to a host computer for both local and remote access. Otherwise, how do you think that network administrator can have access to the router and switch without monitor and keyboard?
that is not true. router is router, switch is switch, and hub is
