SVCD's capacity is very limited.
A 8x2x8 DVD burner you can get now at $70.

The better way to make SVCD is:
use a digital camcorder to transfer via 1394 to PC (in DVI format), then DVI -> VCD or SVCD or DVD

The best software to do this is Ulead Video Studio.
