most likely he simply connects the ATA and PC.
When configure the ATA, for the ATA and router combo such as SPA 21xx it is correct (PC must be connected to the "LAN" port of the combo). For ATA only such as SPA 10xx and PAP2, he needs to connect both the ATA and the PC to the same router.
