wireless networking under ubuntu

I have installed both windows 7 and ubuntu on my laptop. For windows 7, the wireless networking works fine.

When I boot the laptop to ubuntu, it cannot search the same wireless network automatically. Moreover, when I try to configure wireless networks, the option “wireless network” is gray and I cannot configure it.

What should I do to make ubuntu wireless networks work? Thanks a lot
