I've owned many laptops, HP, Dell and Sony etc. and found Thinkpad to be the best. It may not look funcy but feels solid.
Also, you can use a program TPFC to control CPU fan so when CPU is not hot, fan is not running. The laptop is quite like a sleeping baby. Of course, when CPU is hot, the fan will run for a short period of time. I can't find a similar program for my company HP ProBook 6450b, which is noisy all the time.
