You can download lots of apps

You can download lots of free apps from app store, either use itunes download the app into itunes library in your computer and sync it to your ipod touch or use your ipod touch download apps from App store thru Wifi. Just make sure to update your itunes or ipod touch iOS. Check your ipod iOS version, go to Setting--General---About, the latest version is 4.0.2.
BTW, most of apps for iphone can run on ipod touch. Enjoy your new toy.
