Recovery disc can repair the system. It should not touch your other files.

If you still worry about your files, get a copy of BartPE. Burn it to a CD. Restart the computer using this CD. It has many useful programs to help recover your files. Please note, you need to have an external hard drive connected to your PC before you restart computer.
