Questions for Mac. Thx advance!

Have been using Mac for several years. One thing still kind of confuse and couldn't and don't have time to figure out.
It always loads in iPhoto program when I import pictures either from the memory card or from my camera. I try to delete the unwanted photos as much as possible to avoid taking too much spaces in my Mac. My Mac doesn't have issue with speed or free space. Just want to organize better. But I found out I still can see the deleted pictures when I browse with Bridge in the photoshop. That tells me the pictures were not deleted from the system. The iPhoto just didn't look the file after I deleted them. But the photos are still in the system or hard drive some where.

Could anyone tell me where the pictures actually locate in the Mac? How can I complete delete unwanted photos from the system?

Thanks so much for answering my questions!_(c)
