old memory SDRAM, RDRAM, DDR are discontinued

The fabs making those memory chips have either been re-tooled to make DDR2/DDR3 or closed down. Basically noboday makes these memory chips any more. The sticks you can get are all old "new" inventory with >100% markup.

I usually upgrade mobo+cpu+memory all together.
