Some DV, like some Hi8 many years ago, has analog input and output ports, usually S-Video or composite video (AV) plus audio lines. These DV havd A/D inside to record anything plugged on the ports. What's recorded will be in DV format. Then you use 1394/firewire/i.Link to import into PC with XP's Movie Maker, Ulead etc.

The problem is, not many DV support that now. Say Canon's ZR700 has it, but not on ZR800, ZR900, ZR950 ... You may have to find or borrow an old DV machine at least 3 years old.
