keep your vista activated unless you know the trick to stop the timer in Vista.

Generally, one computer plays video better than the other because of its better hardware rather than the system. I will recommend to compare the two laptops before you swap the system. Check on the CPU, total RAM and video card. It might be cheaper to increase the RAM.
