You probably had the hard disk almost full with lots of fragmented files. Defragment usually takes a few hours on a 160G.

Remove temp files first might speed this up - you can use the Windows cleanmgr - just type in the start menu "cleanmgr", it will help you clean unnessary files, probably will make your computer run even faster.

Run another defragment after the cleanup, will help your computer stay the healthy state longer.
