How old is yours? Maybe yours is an exception... Their poor design on air outlet at the bottom, which is more than often being blocked, making the machine very hot. Besides, HP's does not have the anti-shocking design, while ThinkPad has, making the HP's very volnerable...
Both my DV1000 and DV5000 were light-out after one year. First I replaced inverters, didn't cure, I then searched web and found out it was a common MB problem from HP. I hence decided to sell 'em as parts on ebay. Of course I made up my mind not touching HP's any more...
