as far as I have experienced, battery gets hot (really not warm) while recharged. I haven't seen any short circuit. And to be quite honest, other parts of the laptop are far more vulnerable to high temperature!!

However, from time to time I hear news about recall of bad laptop batteries. I think they are just related to certein types or batches of batteries which have quality problems.

To summarize, if there is any quality problem, it is really dangerous, otherwise, feel free to use it.
