how to copy large file on unix

Hi expert,

Tried to copy a 2.5GB file, but failed. This is what i did,

/by01/oracle/export> cp plawLAW12100006.dmp.Z /save
cp: plawLAW12100006.dmp.Z: File too large

Any ideas?
