First, I believe that your hard drive instead of driver is dead.
When you restart computer, press F2 and go into BIOS setting. Under boot, make CD-ROM on top of the list. Place XP CD in the CD drive, and restart computer. If CD drive does not spin, you have a hardware problem.
If you have an external USB hard drive, copy everything under i386 folder (from XP CD) to hard drive (on a different computer), make a XP start up disc on the floppy, and try to install XP from external hard drive. If you google it, you will get more detail instructions.
