Heat is the worst enemy of DVD/CD drives. Writing DVD/CD generates more heat than reading it. While some of the PC manufactures use cheap parts (such as Dell), there are some ways to prolong your drive's life.
1. Don't leave CD/DVD in the drive. Each time you start PC or save file, it will spin for nothing.
2. Give your drive a break after you write a full DVD. Let the heat out before writing another one.
3.With the media so cheap, I will not use rewritable media. You could save a few pennies but it may also shorten your drive's life.
