再謝樓上各位的回複 - 回複:Incompatibility of PC4200 and PC5300 Notebook Mem

1) Memory dedicated to Video is not a concern here, and it appears not an OS issue even though host is Vista 31-bit. Because 1.5G has been used with no problem.

2) Wish tech guy would be more helpful, and generally more knowledgeable. Sorry I did not call and I don't hope any help from them.

Just yesterday I incurred a disconnection of cable modem, reset modem\router\pc with no clue so I believed it was a connection issue. Called Comcast and I was told no service issue in my area. Then I was instructed to go over again what I just did right before calling for tech support. Of course it turned out nothing. CSR tried to detect my modem, failed, so telling me to exchange the modem at local store as "damaged".

How could it be damaged when it was online ten minutes ago and lost connection with nothing happened?
I then did nothing nor replaced the modem but left it alone. Half an hour later, I was back online with nothing done.

Thank you, 墨鬥魚. I prefer not to return the chip. The Kbyte 1G 5300 I paid yesterday for $20, even less costly than the Kingston 1G 4200 I got today for $35 @ CC. :-)

3) Maybe number of chips play a role here, as nuxrl indicated. I would be more convinced a speed issue, although I myself could not explain it.

Samsung 512M PC4200 (OEM) - 4 chips on each side with total of 8
Kingston 1G PC4200 - 8 chips on each side with a total of 16
KByte 1G PC5300 - 4 chips on each side with total of 8

Please be noticed that
1) Samsung 512M PC4200 (8 chips) and Kingston 1G PC4200 (16 chips) -> 1.5G
2) Samsung 512M PC4200 (8 chips) and KByte 1G PC5300 (8 chips) -> 1G
3) Kingston 1G PC4200 (16 chips) and KByte 1G PC5300 (8 chips) -> 1G

Please view the new Kingston 1G PC4200 (same 16 chips) I got this afternoon
