A1:
OS: Windows XP Pro. Ent. SP2.
HW: Intel的老古董: D865GBF/GLC ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/*****/d865gbf_lc_mlp.pdf
Q2. how's the esata device connected to the system, esata to sata adapter or host bus adapter or other ways?
A2: Adapter (connector mounted on the slot plate) directly connect to onborad SATA-1.
Q3. tried to re-scan hw after the esata device is plugged in? hot-plug support for sata/esata devices are not perfect.
A3: If plug in after boot, re-scan cannot find anything.
Q4. i assume the sata support's enabled in bios. how did u verify the esata device is detected in post? did u see it printed on the booting screen?
Yes. If eSATA drive is connected before power-on. The POST verbose mode shows:
SATA-1 500GB
IDE-1 Master 300GB
IDE-1 Slave 750GB
IDE-2 Master CD/DVD
IDE-2 Slave CD/DVD
Q5. have u tried to log the booting process just to see how the device is detected and mounted. dont know how's ur boot.ini look like. not sure about ur saying that the system looks to boot from the esata device unless windows messed up with the device mounting.
A5: Did not log the boot process. But I used a MAXTOR Drive Device Monitor monitored the eSATA drive and it reports boot sector serach and return error of non-bootable drive (no system sector). Also screen shows the complaint of NTLOARDER missing.
Thank you for helping!
