I don't understand why you need the virtual thing to be a "subdirectory" instead of just simply a drive, which is shorter. Unless you want it to fool someone else. Otherwise, I just don't see the need for an own PC. I use subst regularly.
Anyway, why not try out Shell Object Editor? It offers something good.
