I installed openSUSE 10.2 a few weeks ago, the source for system update is automatically added. For update, I go to yast, click SYSTEM UPDATE,then follow the instruction. To add source (for example, http://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/suse/update/10.2)
type: http
server name: suse.mirrors.tds.net
directory: /pub/suse/update/10.2

I did not use 10.1, so I do not know if it is the same, but I've heard yast in 10.1 has lots of problems. I think 10.2 is very good, as good as (K)Ubuntu.
