starting windows XP

My laptop with windows xp has problem. When I start it, It goes to desk top and looks show all icons on desktop. But it just keep running and the harddrive indicator light just keep ON and doesn't stop. I can't do anyting about it. What should I do? Please, Please somebody help me. Thanks so much first!!!!!!!
