How to make Shockwave Flash 9.0 work for Firefox in Linux?
The latest Flash plugin for Firefox on Linux is 7.0.x. Some sites require Shockwave Flash 8.0+ in order to display the pages. So, technically, these sites are blocked from Linux users. Here is a little trick to fool Firefox and those sites as if your Firefox is using Flash plugin version 9.0.
1. $cp ~/.mozilla/firfox/pluginre.dat ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat.bak
2. $vi ~/.mozilla/firfox/pluginre.dat
change this line
"Shockwave Flash 7.0 r63:$" to "Shockwave Flash 9.0 r16:$"
save the change and exit
3. restart Firefox and type "about:plugins" in the address bar. What do
you see in Shockwave Flash? "9.0 r16"!
