Question about "Hi-speed USB Host Controller"

Just bought an External Hard Drive. When I connect to my laptop, the computer gave a message, i.e. "Hi speed USB device Attached to Non-Hi-Speed Hub". I have to add a Hi-speed USB host controller to this computer to obtain max performance.

But, I just bought my laptop sometime last year. The USB2 controller should be in the motherboard.

Is there somebody can tell me what is the problem, and how I can fix it.
