MS SQL server 2005

I started my new job as a database analyst.

Got a question from my boss: We have 4 SQL server 2000 lisence and he would like to buy one more. But he is not sure should be 2000 or 2005 license?

I don't have experience on that. Would you please give any ideas to answer his questions?
